چکیده
Efficient pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass is needed to reduce associated energy costs. Lignin-degrading bacteria ( Comamonas testosteroni, Agrobacterium sp. , Lysinibacillus sphaericus, and Paenibacillus sp.) were tested as potential pre-treatment methods for oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) enhance its methane yield during anaerobic digestion (AD). The lignocellulose fractions analysed total reducing sugar (TRS), soluble phenols (TSP), lignin content, weight loss, pH microscopic analysis carried out both before after treatment. production was using the biochemical (BMP) test. Bacteria mediated depolymerisation OPEFB confirmed through observation increased release TSP breakdown loss cultured biomass. highest percentage (25.84%) obtained from treated by sphaericus while average specific (0.042 m 3 /kg VS) treatment with testosteroni. • Bacterial degraders can production. degrading makes viable use in anerobic digestion. mechanism how requires further elucidation.

Characterisation of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches for Fuel Application
This study was an attempt to produce bio-oil from empty fruit bunches (EFB) of oil palm waste using fast pyrolysis technology. A 150 g/h fluidised bed bench scale fast pyrolysis unit operating at atmospheric pressure was used to obtain the pyrolysis liquid. A comparison of the elemental composition of unwashed and washed feedstock was made in this study. With the five methods of treatment being...
متن کاملMicrostructure Modelling of Silica Bodies from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (OPEFB) Fibres
Investigating the mechanical behaviour of silica bodies in oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) is important to improve the process of silica body removal. This study will assist in providing an understanding of the role of OPEFB as a bioresource material for the bioconversion process. The microstructure of silica bodies/protrusions on the OPEFB fibre surface was modelled using the finite eleme...
متن کاملPulping of Empty Fruit Bunches (efb) from the Palm Oil Industry by Formic Acid
Empty fruit bunches (EFB) from palm oil were characterized. The holocellulose (66.97%), α-cellulose (47.91%), and lignin (24.45%) are similar to wood materials, and various non-wood materials, but the fiber length is shorter (0.53 mm). The influence of operational variables in the EFB pulping [formic acid (75-95%), hydrochloric acid (0.05-0.15%), and time (30-150 min)], on the yield, kappa numb...
متن کاملStructural changes of oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) after fungal and phosphoric acid pretreatment.
Oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) was pretreated using white-rot fungus Pleurotus floridanus, phosphoric acid or their combination, and the results were evaluated based on the biomass components, and its structural and morphological changes. The carbohydrate losses after fungal, phosphoric acid, and fungal followed by phosphoric acid pretreatments were 7.89%, 35.65%, and 33.77%, respectively. ...
متن کاملImprovement of production of citric acid from oil palm empty fruit bunches: optimization of media by statistical experimental designs.
A sequential optimization based on statistical design and one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) method was employed to optimize the media constituents for the improvement of citric acid production from oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) through solid state bioconversion using Aspergillus niger IBO-103MNB. The results obtained from the Plackett-Burman design indicated that the co-substrate (sucrose), stim...
